Cross Contemporary Art presents An Evening with Anthony Haden-Guest on Sat. Jan 14, 7pm at The Pineapple, a new boutique venue in Woodstock, NY. An Evening with Anthony Haden-Guest is a multi-media conversation with the artist featuring new animations and a live reading by Haden-Guest from his various poems and essays. In the current show, Word Count, at Cross Contemporary Art, Haden-Guest’s hand-colored ink drawings and blinking neon constructions of historic quotes serve as a wry commentary on celebrity and human hubris. The dialogue continues during this special intimate soiree with the artist at The Pineapple Sat. Jan 14th. Tickets to this event are 10.00 in advance, and 15.00 at the door. Word Count with Anthony Haden-Guest, Shira Toren and Peter Tunney is on extended view at Cross Contemporary Art through Jan 15th.

About “Word Count” at Cross Contemporary Art:
Word Count with Anthony Haden-Guest, Shira Toren and Peter Tunney is a group show of artists who work with the meaning of symbols, letters, and phrases. The playful brushwork of Anthony-Haden-Guest’s hand-colored prints present profound quotations with a slightly ominous whimsy. Peter Tunney’s painted and screened over collages of old book pages create contemporary clarity over layers of cultural memory.  And Shira Toren’s graphite numbers evoke the count down at the start of old black and white films as well as the anticipation of what a count down can bring: everything from a rocket launch to an anticipated microwave dinner. All three artists’ consider the impact of symbols, from the meaning of the phrase to the actual shape of letters and numbers as enigmatic compositions of symbols, abstract shapes and evocative phrases.
Word count is currently on view at Cross Contemporary Art through Sunday, Jan 15, 2017
Gallery Hours: Thurs- Mon 12-5pm or by appointment 845-399-9751
